The world is too small, because it is too big. ‘Démesure’ explores our generation’s loss of its bearings in a world saturated with information. The world is constantly revealing its immensity — its complexity is infinite, its interconnections innumerable. Endless options, and a metaphysical vertigo. ‘Démesure’ reacts to this with a ‘mise en corps’ of contemporary music by French and German composers, who write about the beauty of abundance, but also about the intuition of catastrophe, the spiralling expansion of a world confined within too narrow boundaries. The public is invited to metaphorically and physically explore this ambivalence alongside the musicians in a scenic and choreographic ritual of excess.
