Hardcore places the audience at the heart — the hard core — of the ritual of the concert. The musicians move around the public, allowing them to experience the sound from a host of different acoustic perspective, ranging from the very centre of the orchestra to the point of view of the double bass. The physical presence and movements of the musicians drive the dramatic tension of the performance. This is not simply a series of pieces, but rather a chain of musical and physical actions that lead, just before the end, to collective silence.
